Teaching method

Classes will begin with a lecture of variable length, followed by practical exercises of didactic planning and textual interpretation in debate. Classes are independent from the Teaching Supervised Practice, but students are allowed to bring in to class discussion their teaching experiences and observations.

Subject matter

General topic: Literature, the other languages of the tongue.
1st Section: literature as a critical idea of the idea of national language. Problems of textual selection for school curricula. Traditional errors: anti-literary nationalism of State programs for Portuguese teaching. Basic principles for a cosmopolitan literature didactics. The prominence of Brazil as a destiny of language and literature in Portuguese.
2nd Section: asystematic heterogeneity of language in literary writing. Preliminary matter: uncoincidence between grammar and rhetoric. Dialogism and literary genres. Literature and the risk of illegibility: Portuguese, Brazilian and African examples. Signature and style: a didactic revision.
3rd Section: a literary dealing with language as didactic purpose. A sense of art in speech and writing. The pleasure of text and the enjoyment of reading: the class and the library. Instigating debate and argumentative reasoning. Writing: first exercises in critical practice.
