Dissertation Project


It is intended that the student prepare and publicly present a dissertation project in Precision Agriculture Technologies, structured and scheduled and that contributes in an innovative and original way to the student investigation competences. The dissertation project should reflect the ability to systematically understand the scientific area of the master''''s degree, as well as demonstrate the ability to design, adapt and carry out scientific research, meeting the requirements imposed by academic quality and integrity standards. In the course of the teaching-learning process, the student must acquire the ability to critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize new and complex ideas. Finally, the student should develop personal and scientific maturity to competently present his thesis project, and the consequent expected results, to the academic community and society in general.

Teaching method

A teaching methodology closely tied to the needs of the student, practical and pragmatic is proposed for this curricular unit. It will hinge on the independent work done by the student, conceived to be analytical, and with a strong component of synthesis on the subject matter of his researchand sought objectives for the master thesis. The supervisor/ tutor will paticipate in this effort, giving guidance, discussing and questioning his (her) choices and proposals, in his (her) path to successfully define his thesis work and the means, instruments and methods needed to carry it out.

Evaluation method

Individual work done by the student, conceived to be analytical, and with a strong component  of synthesis on the subject matter of his research and sought objectives for the master thesis in Precision Agriculture Technologies.

Subject matter

 The syllabus of this Curricular Unit is designed to help the student understand and scientifically summarize his (her) research objectives and means needed to successfully carry it out. He should learn to revise and lay out the state of art related to hissubject matter, and clearly enunciate the objectivesof his (her)study, the hypotheisi and the expected results. Included topics are: a) state of art of scientific knowledge; b) definition of objectives of scientific research and experimental work; c) scientific experimental design and related statistical methods, methodology applied and evaluation of the necessary means, tools and instruments to successfully carry out the experimental work; d) expected results; e) contingency plan according to expected constraints; f)  thesis timetable; g) public presentation, defense and discussion of the thesis project.
