Waste Treatment and Recycling Technologies

Objectives

The goal of this course is to give the Master students a general overview on technical and scientific aspects on prevention, valorisation and recycling of wastes with a strong incidence in Materials Science and processing technologies. Aspects of the valorisation of wastes through waste treatment and recycling strategies allowing for a more efficient technical, ecological and economic action will also be discussed. The students will also approach prevention in the production of residues and wastes through modernization of organization and management strategies of the productive sector having in mind the minimization of industrial wastes.

Teaching method

Lectures focusing on the syllabus.

Many practical exercices to consolidate the theorical knowledge and also Pratical work in laboratory and/or in real facilities (when possible)

Field trip(s) to different recycling plants (when possible).

Evaluation method

The Frequency to this course consists of:

•Participation in 2/3 of the classes
•The study tours are mandatory (when they happen)
•The mean of minitests classification >9,5 is needed to have acess to the exam
•The exam contributes with 70% to the final classification.

The Continuous Evaluation consists of:

• At least 4 “minitests or exercises” (one in each Module and/or in the Study tours) and a Test
•The mean of minitests classification should be >9,5 and the test classification should be positive (>9,5)
•Final classification is (30% the mean of minitests + 70% test) and positive (>9,5)
