Teaching method

The lectures involve exposing the material through powerpoint, practical lessons solving problem alternate with labs.

Evaluation method

The evaluation is done through two tests for final exam exemption with the following three conditions:
1) Final mark resulting from the arithmetic average of the marks obtained in the two tests and the marks in the reports of the practical work.
2) Minimum mark in any of the tests: 6.0 points.
3) Minimum grade for final exam exemption: 9,5 points.

b) test/exam on surfaces and interfaces

c) reports and practical works

Frequency attributed by the practical works (positive note on the reports and assiduity on all works)

Final mark = 50% (a)+ 50%[A], with A= 50% (b)+ 50% (c))

Specific area of solids; roughness. Solid-solid friction. Wear; solid surfaces. Coordination and atomic energy surface. Effect of orientation on the structure and energy. Anisotropy of surface tension. Faceting. Thermodynamics of interfaces. Gibbs-Duhem equation. Gibbs equation. Concentration of excess. Adsorption positive and negative. Effect on surface tension.
