Evaluation method

Assessment method: Continuous assessment, with the completion of 1 theoretical-practical test (50% of the final grade) and practical component (50% of the final grade), corresponding to:

  • Presentation of  a report (individually or in groups of 2 students) of 1 GIS project partially carried out during practical classes;

  • completion of at least 10 hours of online ESRI training course, with delivery of a supporting certificate.

Attendance criteria for the practical component: to attend the practical component, it is necessary to deliver certificates proving the completion of at least 10 hours of ESRI online courses and attendance in at least 2/3 of the total number of classes (8 out of 13 classes) .

Practical component bonus criteria

< 10 hours of ESRI courses – does not attend the practical component of the uc
[10 to 20 hours of ESRI courses [ - bonus of 0.5 points in the practical component
[20 to 30 hours of ESRI courses [ - bonus of 1 value in the practical component
>=30 hours of ESRI courses - bonus of 1.5 points in the practical component

Subject matter

The UC is constituted by two parts: Part 1 - include the use of  geographic information systems (GIS) and data bases techniques and concepts for acquiring, editing, spatial analysis, integration and organization of thematic cartography data. In this module there are performed 3 practical projects, using ArcGIS software.

Part 2 -are applied concepts and techniques for the interpretation and construction of drillhole logs as well as the construction and interpretaçãode of 2D and 3D litho-stratigraphic profiles. In this module it is developed with Rockworks software a project that aims to build the Logs of a set of drillhole data, the construction of their lithologic and estartigraphical profiles, identification of mineralized horizons and the estimation of the volume of the mineralized strata.
