Expertise Seminar: Visual Anthropology and Artistic Practices
Objectives
- Provide tools for the production of ethnographies using audiovisual media and graphics;
- Familiarize students with anthropological production on artistic practices;
- Provide the analysis and critical debate on the interconnections between the arts and anthropology;
- Develop theoretical and methodological skills for the anthropological approach of artistic practices in its various dimensions;
- Confronting students with different ethnographies on the "art worlds".

Teaching method
The seminars consist of a combination of expositive contents and debates geared to the relevant themes of the students' proposed projects.

Assessment - Participation in the debates and the drafting of a draft of the final work/project(100%)
Subject matter
- Reflections on the politics of visibility, the uses of the past, visual cultures and rhetoric of ethnographic film and documentary as a cinematographic genre;
- Methodological approach of visual tools (drawing, photography and moving images) and sound in anthropology;
- Presentation of the main anthropological debates on various artistic practices - classical and contemporary perspectives. Methodological and ethical discussion of practices that interact ethnography, art production and anthropological production. Debates about "collaborative" practices;
- Analysis of texts in a perspective of literary anthropology;
- The concept of "performance": a conceptual tool forged in the intersection of anthropology and art;
- Critical analysis of case studies.
