History, Methodologies and Theories of Heritage in Portugal
Objectives
Development of knowledge for a general critical analysis of cultural and natural heritage.
Development of the study of history and heritage in Portugal and a reflection on the role of different actors in
the heritage process, in a more holistic perspective of heritage (tangible and intangible).
Skills to perform diagnostics (theoretically substantiated but practice-oriented) of a point of view of values and
methodologies of protection and enhancement of heritage.
Acquisition/development of skills for the implementation of principles and methodologies in the field of
heritage.
Acquisition/development of skills for the identification and delineation of research fields inherent dynamics of
recognition, cultural appropriation and use of heritage in a contemporary context.

Teaching method
Part of the classes will be theoretical in nature, consisting of discursive presentations by the teacher and students, in accordance with the work and assessment plan. Other sessions, of a theoretical and practical nature, are intended to present work developed by students and their critical contributions.
Evaluation method
The course assessment will be as follows:
Case study – group work -20% (delivery November 22nd)
Individual work – construction of a portfolio of heritage evidence - 50% (delivered to December 13th and presentation on January 3rd and 10th 2024).
Portfolio constitution:
SWOT analysis cultural sector – group activity in the classroom
Scientific article on heritage theme – presentation and discussion in class - 20%

A research project
The portfolio must have an introduction and an analysis of the content collected.
