Public Policies and Heritage

Objectives

Acquire and analyze information relating to the use of theory for understanding and criticize the problems inherent to cultural heritage as a means of consolidated power in public policies .
Acquire/develop skills for the identification and delineation of fields of knowledge and research leading to disciplinary readings on heritage integrated in territory and implemented in public policies.
Know demonstrations of use of heritage as mean of power throughout the history of Portugal (case studies)
Encourage a requirement of rigor and research, combined with a critical attitude in the construction of knowledge in oral and written support.

Teaching method

The teaching methodology is based on two dimensions of continuous assessment. First, a speech by the teacher in each class, allowing a synthesis of the theme and associated concepts, with attention to current practical cases. In this context, students are encouraged to intervene through exercises such as presentations of heritage situations/problems or proposals for solutions/public policies.

Evaluation method

1) Group work – Participation, written and oral presentation – 40% - Date of oral and written presentation (ppt, 10/20 and 1/5/2024);


2) Individual work – Presentation of news/events on public heritage policies - 30% - Date of sessions: 6/10; 10/13, 1/12/2024


3) Individual work – Commentary on policies presented and discussed in classes – 30% - Delivery and presentation date: 15/12 (minimum 5 pages; maximum 10 pages).
