Subject matter

The course is devoted to the analysis and discussion of two works:
-Martin Heidegger’s The Origin of the Work of Art;
-Jacques Rancière’ The emancipated spectator.
There seems to be no common ground in the way in which Heidegger and Rancière conceive of contemporary art.“Heidegger and Rancière” may be just the title for a disagreement. However, the course will explore the possibility ofthere being subterranean channels that connect the two authors, namely in the fundamental connection that both haveto the aesthetic tradition of the West.
