Housing Policies
Objectives
a) To understand the meaning of the right to housing as a human right.
b) To master the overall portuguese housing policies.
c) To percieve the evolution of the “housing problem” in Portugal.
d) To establish a link between the portuguese housing policies and the legal measures implemented in other geographic contexts.
e) To acknowledge the contemporary housing challenges in developed and developing countries in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals guidelines (Agenda 2030).
f) To understand how housing market works and rates its needs.
g) To develop critical thinking about different models of housing policies and recognize their articulation with urban policies.

Teaching method
1) The teaching method is based on theoretical and practical classes.
2) The classes promote the dialogue and debate about the contents of the course.
3) Some classes will be taught by invited speakers regarding their technical and/or scientific domain on housing policies.
4) A field trip will be carried out to several housing ensembles promoted by public entities.
Evaluation method
Continuous assessment - Group research project with written report (around 20 pages) and oral presentation(55%), Three individual essays (15% each, max. 5 pages each).(45%)

4) Housing policies between the Great Wars.

6) Housing policies in Portugal – models, trends and challenges.
