Objectives

a) Understanding the fundamentals of environmental policies;
b) Knowing the concepts and principles of environmental policies and international environmental organizations;
c)Identifying the instruments of environmental policies at international, community and European level;
d) Developing scientific and technical capacity to assess, at different levels of analysis, the repercussions ofenvironmental policies;
e) Knowing how to conduct and develop environmental studies around major contemporary issues;
f) Knowing how to communicate knowledge about environmental policies to different audiences.

Subject matter

This course works mainly in tutorial and practical mode, through the study of documents and other materials foranalysis and discussion. The major issues of environmental policies (and their incidence in different territories) are addressed, covering current cases, according to the following program:
1) Concepts and principles of environmental policies.
2) International Environmental Organizations.
3) Instruments of environmental policies.
4) Assessment of environmental policies.
5) Specific areas of environmental policies: Air and water quality; Waste; Oceans and coastal areas; Natureconservation and ecological restoration; Urban environment and mobility; Soils and desertification; Waste; Energy transition and climate change
