Teaching method
This course introduces students to the practical work in the field and laboratory of archaeology, allowing the application in a real context of the methodologies and protocols of field and laboratory work, promoting the development of skills complementary to the theoretical knowledge acquired during the curricular year. The programmatic content of the course will allow students to acquire experience and knowledge about the practical work in archaeology. This will introduce students to the field and laboratory work, allowing them to participate actively in archaeological interventions and in the handling of archaeological collections. This course focuses on the practical application of methodological skills introduced in the first year of the degree, as well as contact with chronologies of the prehistoric, protohistoric and Roman periods.
The contents of the course will be developed in practical classes, taken in field and laboratory environments, which promote direct contact of students with the various contexts and archaeological materials, as well as with the various instruments, techniques and methodologies. The teaching is done through explanations and exemplifications, promoting the interaction between the several participants and the discussion of the works and strategies applied.
Evaluation method
Students will be assessed on the practical activities in which they participate, according to predefined criteria. Once the fieldwork is completed, students will prepare a report of the work carried out. The assessment will be made by the weighted average of the practical work and the report on that work.
