Literature and Cinema
Objectives
It is expected that students:
a) learn to contextualize some literary and cinematic works, establishing a dialogue between the History of Literature and Cinema in Portugal and the Literary and Cinema Criticism;
b) get familiarized with the specific vocabulary of the formal grammar of cinema, such as: plan, sequence, assembling, travelling, sound track, script, among others;
c) exercise close reading and visualisation of different text and cinema genders, aiming to develop a critical discourse on it;
d) reflect on how Literature and Cinema articulate diverse discursive approaches regarding the necessities of representation and expression that, in certain situations, they get confronted with.

Teaching method
Classes will have a theoretical and practical approach, assessed by a close reading/visualisation of texts and films excerpts.
Except the shorts – that will be presented entirely during the classes-, the long movies will be made available on line. At the beginning of the semester, an anthology of critical texts will be recommended to students.
It is expected that students read previously the texts announced for the class.
