Topics on Lusophone Literatures
Objectives
a) To promote the teaching and dissemination of national literatures written in Portuguese;
b) To promote the comparative study of fundamental works from different national literatures written in Portuguese;
c) To broaden students' sensitivity to the problems of comparative literature in the context of a "same language";
d) To develop the students' awareness of literary heritage and tradition, and of specific problems and theoretical issues central to the study of literature.

Teaching method
The work developed in class will be based on a topic and a reading list proposed by the professor and referenced in the bibliography. Privileging the close reading of literary texts — accompanied by a short selection of critical works —, students will be invited to explore a specific set of problems and topics which cut across literature(s) in Portuguese. Students are expected to articulate with the professor and the goals of this course, carrying out the mandatory readings and contributing actively, in every session, to the discussion unfolding around each text or group of texts. Throughout the semester, the aim will be to promote the methodological skills leading to the conception and improvement of the final essay.
Evaluation method
Written assignments: 1) short comment (40%); 2) final essay (60%)
