Teaching method
Seminars with presentation and discussion of key texts for exploring the main topics of the curricular unit.
Questions and exercises aimed at developing critical abilities. Problem-based learning exrecises.
Evaluation method
Continuous assessment will consist of three parts:
- group presentation and discussion of a text 1/3
- written test 1/3
- participation in the weekly debates 1/3
Final assessment compreehends two components:
1 . theoretical-practical component: group presentation/discussion of a text and participation in the weekly sessions = 2/3 of the evaluation
2 . Theoretical: Test = 1/3 of the assessment
Exam: replaces 1/3 of the evaluation (relative to the theoretical component (test)).
To take the exam the student must have a minimum mark of 9.5 points.

1. The role of Art Theory in the Conservation of art objects.
2. The status of art: from Greece to Contemporary times.
2.1 Pre-socratics, Plato and Aristotle.
2.2 Medieval times and Renaissance.
2.3 The introduction of subjectivism. Notions of subject in modern thought
3. The Enlightenment and the "scientific revolution"
4. The role of Academies in the affirmation and legitimation of the artwork.
4.1 Consequences of the appearance of the French Salon.
5. The birth of criticism and its consequences on the legitimacy of the works. Artistic and aesthetic value. Artistic creation and aesthetic judgment.
5.1 The Museum as the place of consecration of the work. The art market. Work of art, art object and aesthetic pleasure.
6. The notions of Beauty and Modernity in Charles Baudelaire.
7. Notions of temporality in modernity. The consecration of the historic monument
8 . From modern to postmodern. Materialisms, Feminisms, LGBTI, Post Colonial studies.
