Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program

Objectives

The  internship aims to provide students with their first exposure to the clinical/business environment, particularly in the field of Biomedical Engineering, which merges Engineering and Medicine.

This direct interaction allows students to understand the operational methodology used in these environments.

Additionally, it aims to meet the Institution''s schedule requirements and develop skills such as following instructions and performing tasks, even if they are simple. Given the importance of collaboration in any work setting, the internship also aims to enhance teamwork, written and oral communication, and the ability to learn autonomously.

Subject matter

This short internship period (minimum of 80 hours) serves as preparation for what the students will face upon completing their studies: the professional field. Pedagogically, the internship fosters and enhances student learning as it provides them with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their field, not just theoretically, but practically. The insights they receive during this period serve as stimuli and encouragement for their ability to adapt, react, and solve real-world problems.

Biomedical Engineering is a versatile field that applies principles, methods, and tools from science, technology, and engineering to analyze and solve problems in medicine and biology, aiming to develop innovative approaches for instrumentation in disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Thus, it contributes to overall improvements in healthcare and understanding of the human body.

Therefore, after the internship, it is expected that I will be more knowledgeable and attuned to the professional reality in the healthcare field, which will spark the emergence of new ideas as potential means of addressing existing problems. I will also be better prepared to continue my studies and strive for increasingly higher levels of excellence.
