Product Development and Innovation

Objectives

At the end of this course, students will have acquired knowledge, skills and competences that allow them to:

- Understand innovation in an integrated way in the company''''s management process

- Identify the various forms and processes of business innovation 

- Relate the innovation process to the process of developing new products and services

- Know the stages of product development: from opportunity to delivery of the product to the customer.

- Apply methods and tools for product and service development in an interdisciplinary way, working as a team with limited information.

- Understand the importance of prototyping in a context of rapid product development.

- Analyze the implications of decisions taken in the early stages of product development in downstream operations, when developing new business models, namely through design techniques for X, such as manufacturing and assembly, environment, among others.

Teaching method

The teaching method is based on the following principles:

-      Oral presentation by the teacher.

-      Performing group work.

-      Presentation and discussion of group work.

-      Assessment of knowledge and individual performance.

Evaluation method

The final evaluation will be based on the performance during the semester:

- 1 Test (T)

- 2 Group Works (TG1, TG2) which consist in the development of work during the semester. The groups will have a maximum of 4 students.

The final grade will be composed as follows:

Final grade = 0,30*TG1 + 0,45*TG2+ 0,25*T

Approval occurs if the Final Mark is equal to or greater than 9.5 points.
