Hospital Management and Innovation
Objectives
This curricular unit responds to a growing need for professionals in the field of biomedical engineering to develop skills required in the field of management, innovation and health information systems (health units, hospitals, regional health administrations, digital service networks, etc. ), which meet the needs generated by government policies or development projects, supported by evidence and oriented towards health results.
The skills to be developed are understanding management tools, innovation and the development of information systems in the context of health services, from the perspective of biomedical engineering.
The objectives of this curricular unit are:
1. Know the fundamental health management models and tools, types of information systems, information sources and information management models in health services, and understand the bases of Information Theory;
2. Explore the various health management methods, such as Lean and the relevance of innovation in the engineer''s work in the health context;
3.Explore the importance of and barriers to decision-making, and the dependence on access to information, in the context of organizing health services and programs;
4. Show the use of a set of instruments to support innovation, based on access to information through information systems in the context of Health;
5. Analyze and diagnose needs for information systems and other solutions, from the point of view of health services management and Design Science;
6. Develop planning for the implementation of health information systems projects, in the logic of Design Science and co-production;
7. Develop change management interventions to support the implementation of information systems, in the context of biomedical engineering;
8. Understand the role of engineers, managers, information technicians, health professionals (doctors, nurses, etc.) and other actors in the development of the IS;
9. Understand the dynamics of digital health in Portugal and Europe;
