Master's in Law and Security

Education objectives

The course aims to give specialized training on security matters , but a multidisciplinary integrated optics.

It has a duration of 4 semesters. The 1st and 2nd semesters, with success, lead to Postgraduate Studies Diploma and confer the title of Auditor in Homeland Security - Portaria No. 326/2008 of 28 April (old Advanced Studies in Law and Security).

The 3rd and 4th semesters are destined to the Master's Thesis preparation and lead to the degree of Master of Law and Security.

MERIT AWARDS:

Candidates whose final classification for admission to a 2nd study cycle at NOVA School of Law, as assessed and ranked by the jury, is equal to or higher than 17 (on a scale of 0/20) and who enroll and attend the same course, will be awarded a prize in cash corresponding to 50% of the tuition they will pay for the course phase of the Master's degree. Candidates whose final classification for admission to a 2nd study cycle at NOVA School of Law, as assessed and seriated by a jury, is equal to or higher than 16 (on a scale of 0/20) and who enroll and attend the same course, will be awarded a prize in cash corresponding to 30% of the tuition fee they will pay for the teaching phase of the Master's degree.

In the non-teaching phase, three academic merit awards are given (by master's degree or area of specialization, in the case of the Master's in Law). These awards presuppose the completion of the teaching phase within the regular timeframe.  The best student of the teaching phase of each study cycle or specialization area of a study cycle who continues and attends the non-teaching phase is awarded a prize in money corresponding to 100% of the tuition fee he or she will pay for the non-teaching phase of the Master's degree. The second best student of the academic phase of each study cycle or specialization area of a study cycle who continues and attends the non academic phase will receive a cash prize corresponding to 60% of the tuition fee he or she has to pay, corresponding to the non academic phase of the Master's degree. The third best student of each study cycle or specialization area of a study cycle who continues and attends the non-teaching phase will receive a cash prize corresponding to 40% of the tuition fee paid for the non-teaching phase of the Master's degree.

 

ALUMNI DISCOUNT: 10%

 

FINANCIAL DISCOUNT:  Students who choose to pay tuition fees in a single initial payment receive a 5% discount on the amount to be paid.

 

 

Schedule

This course is taught during post-labor hours. Some optional Course Units may be taught during daytime hours.

Degree pre-requisites

 

A master’s degree is awarded to students who have passed all the course units that make up the taught part of the course, for a total of 60 credits; and the dissertation, project work, or internship report.

 

Conditions of admittance

- The Master’s in Law and Security is intended for all graduates who wish to deepen their knowledge in this area, since security is an interdisciplinary field that interests multiple scientific backgrounds in higher education.

Evaluation rules

 

The final assessment of the curricular units consists, as a rule, of a written exam with a maximum duration of three hours, under an anonymous regime, designed to assess the extent to which students have achieved the curricular goals and learning objectives of such curricular units. Other complementary elements of assessment may be used, as long as they are announced to the students orally and in writing at the beginning of the semester.
