Post-Graduation in Geographic Information Systems and Science

Education objectives

The Postgraduate Program in Geographic Information Systems and Science provides a technical and scientific framework related to the use of geographic information technology and analysis, especially skills related to the modeling and analysis of spatial data, and the design and planning of geographic information technology and analysis in organizations.

 

This program is developed in collaboration with UNIGIS, an international network that brings together the best schools in Geographic Information Systems and Science and it gives access to the Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) certificate accredited by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF).

This Postgraduate program lasts two semesters, taught in b-learning or e-learning formatsand it gives access to the Master Degree Program in Geographic Information Systems and Science

This Program is taught in Portuguese and aims at everyone from Portuguese-speaking African countries but also Portugal, Brazil, Timor, and Portuguese communities all over the world, who is interested in continuing their studies by getting a Postgraduate diploma and/or a master's degree in a Portuguese university.

To complete the application, the applicant must register in NOVA IMS' Applications Portal, fill the form, upload their Curriculum Vitae, pay the application fee (€ 51), and submit the application in the end from July 28th to August 17th, 2023. The selection process is based on the analysis of the applicant's academic and professional curriculum.

Degree pre-requisites

For the conclusion of the program, the students complete 60 ECTS, of which 7,5 are mandatory, corresponding to the course unit Geographic Information Systems and Science, and the rest corresponds to elective course units, to be chosen by the students.

To earn the Master's degree students neeed to develop a thesis, work project or internship report, in the 2nd year, in a total of 120 ECTS.

Evaluation rules

The assessment method will be continuous assessment, i.e. through individual or group work, projects, quizzes, tests/exams, etc.

At the beginning of each academic year, it is up to each teacher of each Curricular Unit (CU) to define how assessment will be carried out in their CUs, and this information is then made available via the student platform.
