Spatial Data Analysis and Visualization
Objectives
This Curricular Unit is an introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) through a practical approach. The main goal of the course is to frame the concepts related to the conception, development and management of GIS within the resolution of several practical examples suited to real scenarios. The first LU will be an introduction to the ArcGIS Pro software as well as to ArcGIS Online, a cloud-based resource for analysis and mapping. Potential applications of cloud-based GIS will be presented. In the second LU, we will present functional features of geoprocessing within ArcGIS Pro and describe the ways that this tool is able to combine and analyze geographic data. The third LU is dedicated to 3d analysis using the 3D analyst tools from the software. The fourth LU will showcase network analysis through the use of the Network Analyst extension on ArcGIS Pro.
