Spatial Data Analysis and Visualization
Objectives
The goal of this course is to introduce students to principles and methods of geographic information systems (GIS) as well as spatial analysis and visualization. Throughout the course, students will get acquainted with geographic information tools and techniques which are available for applications in research, industry, and government. The practical component of the course is based on ESRI software although the use of other tools is also encouraged.
Students are expected to learn about the acquisition, modeling, analysis, and visualization of spatial data through classes, exercises, online courses as well as a final project. The project is a chance for students to get hands-on practice using traditional and novel methodologies aimed to answer research questions that can potentially fit the objectives of their master's thesis or their professional/academic careers. Finally, students are strongly encouraged to submit their work to a conference or an academic journal.
