Human Behaviour and Decision Making

Objectives

This course provides students with a perspective on the fundamental role of psychology and human behavior within the field of economis and management. It provides students with a journey that starts with an analysis of how we think about ourselves and finishes with a discussion on how and why we relate to others. In this process, students will also explore the importance and limitations of information processing and how it influences our thoughts, emotions, behavior, and decisions. How emotions and cognition affect our choices will also be explored

Teaching method

This course consists in one 3h class per week and feedback meetings with teams. This course is a mix of lectures, and case study analysis.

1- Me, myself and the others (self- concept; self-esteem, functions of the self, self-awareness and regulation; personal characteristics and dispositions; core self-evaluations)

2- How to acquire and process information (memory/learning and cognition; attribution-biases)

3- Beyond the automatic pilot within (dual processing: two types of thinking/problem solving/stereotypes)

4- Attitudes and behavioral change (attitudes; how to change behaviors)

5- Emotions and social influence (nature of emotions; coping strategies; reciprocity, compliance and obedience)

6- How do we make choices (how do people decide which goods to buy? how do people decide who to select for their teams; why do people help?)
