Mental Models for Strategy
Objectives
Mental models are abstract representations of reality. They provide a map to identify critical problems and develop solutions. Following a mental model approach, the course will equip the participants to examine firm´s strategies and obtain valid answers to related questions. Participants should possess basic understanding of concepts of strategic management.

Teaching method
The course will consist of series of sessions that will combine discussion of concepts and their application to specific cases/problems. Students will work in teams to analyse the cases/problems and will engage in questioning the analysis of other teams.
Evaluation method
Assessment will be based on:
Participation (10%): based on contributions in class
Quizzes (20%): based on concepts discussed in class
Group presentation (20%): based on a given case/problem/concept
Final exam (50%): based on concepts discussed in class
Subject matter
The course will cover mental models from various disciplines such as statistics, economics, and psychology and link them to basic concepts in competitive and corporate strategy. Specific topics include causal thinking and strategy, market cycles and strategy, signalling and strategy among others.
