Education objectives
The Specialization Course in Hospital Administration is one of the most recognized programs at the NOVA National School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH). For over 50 years, the Course has provided scientific knowledge, technical skills, and specialized competencies for managing health organizations and healthcare delivery.
With a highly distinguished faculty in the field of public health and health management, possessing nationally and internationally recognized professional experience and academic competence, the course fosters a close connection between teaching and learning and the expertise of instructors and lecturers.
Comprising theoretical-practical components, an internship, and fieldwork, graduates are expected, upon completion of the Course, to possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes enabling them to make informed and qualified decisions and actions as managers in hospital-based health organizations, striving to meet the demands and expectations of the roles they will assume.
To achieve this, it is intended that students:
- Develop the capacity to engage in management activities in health organizations at central, regional, and local levels, while promoting their cultural and technical training in the areas of health policy and administration and related social fields;
- Acquire management skills in healthcare within a public health context, enabling them to alter their professional trajectory with the ability to add value to social and healthcare organizations.
IDEAL STUDENT
Holders of a bachelor's degree or equivalent, aimed at providing scientific knowledge, technical skills, and specialized competencies enabling the practice of management in healthcare organizations and healthcare delivery.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
- Opportunity to work in the public, private, and social sectors, which include health units, public administration, consulting firms, pharmaceutical and technological industries, among others;
- Since 1980, it is the only course that qualifies for entry into the hospital administration career (Decree-Law 48,357 of April 27, 1968).

The Specialization Course in Hospital Administration requires a minimum number of 20 participants to be held.
Fees
Application fee: 51,00 EUR (non-refundable)
The course's total tuition fee is 6.900,00 EUR (4.850,00 EUR in the first year and 2.050,00 EUR in the second)

Schedule
Mandatory course units:
Tuesdays and Wednesdays | 09:30 a.m. - 08.00 p.m.
Optional course units (online):
Mondays (mornings) and/or Wednesdays (afternoons) and/or Saturdays (mornings)
INTERNSHIP
The internship takes place in the 3rd semester, in national or international hospitals or other healthcare units.
FIELDWORK
Takes place in the 3rd and 4th semesters and includes participation in fieldwork seminars.

Conditions of admittance
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent);
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English.
Evaluation rules
The grading in each of the course units included in the curriculum is expressed on a whole numerical scale from 0 to 20 points, with approval requiring a minimum final grade of 10 points resulting from the evaluation elements established in each course unit.
The attendance of curricular units may imply prerequisites if so stated in their respective course unit records.
