Master's in Health Management

Education objectives

The Master's in Health Management (HM) at NOVA National School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH) aims at the acquisition of scientific knowledge and advanced skills for study and research in the field of health management.

To this end, it is intended that students:

- Acquire knowledge and develop skills, both in theoretical and practical realms, enabling them to engage in management activities within health institutions;

- Contribute to enhancing health management at local, regional, and central levels, as well as improving the performance of health organizations and systems at national and international levels;

- Develop the capacity to conduct research and contribute to knowledge advancement and problem-solving in health management, through participation in studies, research projects, or working groups, within this domain and related areas such as health policy and administration.

IDEAL STUDENT
- Graduates (or holders of equivalent degrees) in fields related to Public Health, who are interested in assuming managerial roles within the health sector;

- Professionals already working in the healthcare sector seeking career advancement or transitioning into managerial positions;

- Professionals not currently employed in the health sector but aspiring to do so;

- Graduates or professionals aiming for an academic career, intending to pursue doctoral studies subsequently.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
When they enter the course, many of our students are already integrated in the labor market, and often in the health area. In this context, the HM can be useful and important for career advancement purposes or for changing functions, usually from direct care to management functions;

For those students not yet integrated into the labor market, or from outside the health area, the HM can be useful to apply for management positions, in the public and private sectors, in Portugal or abroad, in primary health care, in hospital care, in regional or central bodies, or in other types of health providers or organizations (for example, in the areas of dentistry, physiotherapy, clinical analysis, continuous care);

The HM can also be an entry point to an academic pathway, namely to doctoral programs: the School's, or others, in Portugal or abroad.
