Master's in Health Promotion
Education objectives
The Master's in Health Promotion at the NOVA National School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH) is based on the value of health as a fundamental human right, with equity, participation, and individual and collective empowerment as central axes. This master's program has been developed over years of international experience within the scope of the European Master in Health Promotion.
To this end, it is intended that students:
- Develop skills to enhance intervention capacity for change - individual, organizational, social, and political - aiming to promote informed choice, social transformation, and better quality of life for all;
- Promote the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary for action in health promotion, particularly in planning, facilitating change, advocacy, mediation, communication, and leadership, based on a foundation of ethical values and scientific evidence;
- Develop the capacity to conduct research and contribute to the development of knowledge in health promotion.
IDEAL STUDENT
- Graduates in disciplines pertinent to the health sector, comprehended in its widest context, who demonstrate a robust inclination towards assuming roles as health promoters;
- People already engaged or contemplating engagement in the domain of health promotion across various sectors, including health services, local governance, educational institutions, social welfare services, civil society organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
- Health services, local government (in its various areas of action, such as work in municipalities, in the Social Network or Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth at Risk, in initiatives for healthy aging), the education sector, social action, in NGOs, or other civic organizations, designing programs, planning, and developing projects in the field of Health Promotion;
- Internationally recognized, the Master's in Health Promotion may provide access to specific careers in this area of knowledge, particularly in countries where it exists, such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States of America, and Australia.

Fees
Application fee: 51,00 EUR (non-refundable)
Tuition fee for Portuguese citizens: 3.750,00 EUR (3.300,00 EUR in the first year and 1.200,00 EUR in the second)
Tuition fee for students with International Student status: 5.650,00 EUR (4.650,00 EUR in the first year and 1.000,00 EUR in the second)

Degree pre-requisites
The Master's in Health Promotion has a duration of 4 semesters, unfolding in two stages: a curricular phase (postgraduate course) lasting 2 semesters and the preparation and elaboration of an original Dissertation, specifically conducted for this purpose, taking place during the 3rd and 4th semesters.
Conditions of admittance
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in fields related to health, understood in its broad concept (e.g., nursing, medicine, communication, psychology, sociology, law, nutrition, human kinetics, biology, management, economics, political sciences, educational sciences, social work);
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English.
Evaluation rules
The grading in each of the course units included in the curriculum is expressed on a whole numerical scale from 0 to 20 points, with approval requiring a minimum final grade of 10 points resulting from the evaluation elements established in each course unit.
The attendance of curricular units may imply prerequisites if so stated in their respective course unit records.
