Nutrition and Metabolism I
Objectives
This UC is intended that students know in depth the metabolism of the main biomolecules of the human organism and to understand the metabolism of an integrated and global manner. The role of diet on disease mechanisms. It is intended that the student is able to: (1) identify the main categories of components of the food matrix food (nutrients and non-nutrients); (2) general notions of enzymology (3) know the main metabolic pathways of carbohydrates; (4) know the role of hormones in glucose metabolism; (5) know the role of microbiota in metabolism.

Teaching method
The course is organized in lectures and theorico-practical classes: 2 weekly lectures for all students with a duration of 50 min each; 1 case-study class per week of 2 h, in classes with a maximum of 15 students.
Evaluation method
The evaluation has a practical component and a final exam, both graded from 0 to 20. The assessment of the practicals is continuous, corresponds to 40% of the final grade, and takes into account the following criteria: performance and attendance of students; attitude and knowledge demonstrated by the students. The final exam is 60% of the final grade, it is a multiple choice written exam, and is covers all the theoretical and practical topics taught. The presence in the examination is conditional to attendance to at least 2/3 of the practical classes and a practical grade of at least 9.5.
