Teaching method
TEACHING METHOD
The CU's goals and syllabus are intended to be achieved through a balance between lectures, discussion of concepts, discussion of reportages published/issued on various platforms, discussion with Portuguese reporters and presentation and discussion of the two assignments for assessment, including the planned monitoring moments.
Students are challenged to read, listen to, or watch the materials provided by the teacher in the classes preceding the discussion of reportages or texts published by Portuguese and foreign reporters, as well as in the classes preceding the discussions with Portuguese reporters. Class participation is a disTncTve factor in the student's assessment.
In the two assignments for assessment, students will work in groups of three. Group work is jusTfied for two reasons: journalisTc creaTons, especially reportages, are increasingly the result of teamwork on all plaÄorms. Knowing how to work as a team,
dealing with each other's idiosyncrasies, the effects of Tme pressure and the ambiTon of joint success, is therefore criTcal.
The second reason is linked to Tme management and pace of lessons: in a CU with more than 40 students presenTng and discussing their work, it is not possible for the monitoring classes and final presentaTons to include more than 40 intervenTons. Students must have Tme to present their ideas, to listen to their colleagues' and teacher's comments. The students' performances while presenTng will be assessed individually.
Inforestudante will be the plaÄorm for interacTon between teacher and class. Students will be able to find the bibliography and reportages associated with each lesson on inforestudante.
Evaluation method
ASSESSMENT METHOD
Students will do two group assignments for assessment, which will be presented in class and will also have a wriken version.
1st assignment
IdenTfying the specific nature of the reportage genre, based on the bibliographical references that structure the conceptual framework of the CU and analyzing the profile of a contemporary reporter, using the materials available – reportages, publicaTons and an interview with the selected reporter - that allow this profile to be structured. (The interview with the selected reporter is not opTonal and the transcript must be presented in the annex to the assignment).
This assignment is worth 50 per cent of the final grade. PresentaTon in class - 25%; writen version - 25%.
2nd assignment
PresentaTon of a plan for a wriken reportage, in which the student must apply all the knowledge acquired during the semester. The plan will be structured based on all the phases that precede the wriTng of the report. This plan should therefore idenTfy the idea and jusTfy its relevance; present the angle of approach and the reasons for choosing it; report on the different stages of research that took place unTl the angle was chosen; present the informaTon gathered and all the sources (tesTmonial and documentary) contacted and consulted; verify, select, and organize the informaTon gathered.
This work is worth 50 per cent of the final grade. Class presentaTon - 25%; wriken version - 25%.
