Translation of Technical-Scientific Texts (English)
Objectives
1) To develop linguistic, extra-linguistic and terminological proficiency in the area of specialisation with a view to carrying out technical-scientific translation.
2) To understand the specificity of technical-scientific discourse.
3) To develop autonomous skills in technical-scientific translation as well as revision with the help of specific software, including CAT tools.
4) To become familiar with and develop quality-control techniques with the help of specific software.
5) To become familiar with and develop techniques in terminological research, documentation, creation and management of terminological resources with the help of specific software.
6) To develop critical thinking in both technical-scientific translation practice and research.

Teaching method
The postgraduate seminars are both theoretical and practical with a strong interactive component on the part of the students. The classes (theoretical and practical) will envolve the use of information and communication technologies, specific translation tools, academic and terminological databases, and digital libraries, as support for research and practice in Translation Studies.
Evaluation method
Continuous Assessment - Group terminological project(30%), Individual translation with comments(35%), Written test(35%)

1. Introduction to technical-scientific translation;
2. The phases of technical-scientific translation projects;
3.Software and hardware translation: technical language and technical constraints, translation of manuals and software using CAT tools;
4. Economical and financial translation: terminology, phraseology and translation practice of financial and economical reports, with quality control;
5. Legal translation: law systems, official translation, European law translation, and translation of legal texts;
6. Translation of research articles and technical-scientific popularization texts;
7. Practice of translation of hybrid documents of technical-scientific nature.
