Translation of Literary Texts (English)
Objectives
1) To deepen knowledge about concepts and fundamental problems of the translation of the literary text.
2) To fully understand and improve translation strategies and processes suitable for different types of literary texts and their contexts: narrative, drama and poetry.
3) To develop reflective methods and the ability to evaluate the translation of literary texts as a process and as the final result of that process.
4) To develop the capacity for dealing with resources and methodologies for textual analysis and interpretation in the area of the translation of literary texts.
5) To develop the ability to carry out research in the field of Translation Studies applicable to the literary domain.

Teaching method
Expository and practical classes, with tutorial support. Critical reading of theoretical texts on literary translation. Continuous practice of translating texts. Analysis of the translation process in different phases. Identification of problems raised by different types of texts. Comparison between the different possible versions and other translations already published. Translation for different audiences.
Evaluation method
Translation of literary texts, with written presentation and in class; written and in-person presentation of critical reflection on translation studies applied to the literary domain; written test on part of the subject - 50.0%
Individual final work of 15-20 pp., including bibliography - 50.0%
Subject matter
1.The literary text: specificity in the context of translation.
2. Literary translation as cultural mediation: the role of translation in a globalized world.
3.Translation of texts from different literary genres and subgenres: the translation process and the result of that process.
4.Cultural context in the source language and adoption of appropriate criteria for expression in the target language, at a linguistic, stylistic, pragmatic and cultural level.
5. Gender issues, power relations and religion in the translation of literary texts.
6. Heterolingualism -- Deconstruction of the ST-TT paradigm.
7. Identification and resolution of recurring problems in the translation process related to cultural and extralinguistic references.
8. Case studies: Children’s and young adult literature.
9. Retranslation: Comparative analysis of different translations of the same text.
