Objectives

a. Identify the main statistical concepts in data analysis.
b. Select the most appropriate method of data analysis for the problem, objective and type of variables.
c. Conduct statistical data analysis using the statistical package SPSS.
d. Interpret the statistical results obtained.
e. Prepare a data analysis report applied to a project in the area of Psychology and Pedagogy of Music.

Theoretical and practical classes with:
i. Presentation of methods accompanied by thematic applications in the area of Teaching and Psychology of Music.
ii. Systematization of theoretical and technical knowledge using the statistical package SPSS.
iii. Conducting application exercises on the statistical package SPSS.
iv. Discussion on the interpretation of data analysis results and how to report them.

Evaluation method

Continuous assessment - Data analysis exercises during the semester(40%), Individual report of data analysis applied to a project in the area of the Psychology and Pedagogy of Music(60%)

1. Research in social sciences:
1.1. Challenges, opportunities and ethical issues.
1.2. Basic concepts of statistics (population, sample types, variable types).
1.3. Primary data and secondary data.
2. Construction and preparation of databases in SPSS:
2.1. SPSS command types.
2.2. Variables, recode variables, construction of new variables.
3. Descriptive statistical analysis:
3.1. Univariate analysis.
3.2. Bivariate analysis.
4. Inferential statistical analysis:
4.1. Hypothesis tests - main concepts.
4.2. Parametric tests - presentation, interpretation and implementation.
4.3. Non-parametric tests - presentation, interpretation and implementation.
4.4. Simple linear regression.
5. Structure of a data analysis report: sections, length, presentation of results in tables and graphs, appendixes.
