Music production and management

Objectives

1) To critically study the management of creativity and innovation in the music industry;
2) to explore and evaluate the history of the music industry in the broad context of cultural production;
3) to study the history and context of national production of music events and festivals;
4) to develop knowledge and skills for music management and its economic enhancement;
5) to develop strategies and work capacity in the production of musical events and festivals, as well as in the management of artists, considering their social integration;
6) to learn about national and international copyright regulations regarding music;
7) to learn about the legislation, standards and safety procedures related to the production and management of musical events.

Teaching method

Theoretical-practical classes including the presentation and discussion of themes and documents, as well as the study of specific examples and cases. Practical sessions include the planning and development of a musical event.

Evaluation method

Continuous assessment - Creation, presentation and discussion of the draft programme of a musical event(75%), Written assessment of acquired theoretical knowledge(25%)

Subject matter

a) Overview of the entertainment business industry, national and international;
b) management procedures, positions, functions and follow-up of the various stages;
c) social function of the musical event from the perspective of artistic creation;
d) production and management of musical events and their relationship with creative areas (theatre, ballet and other arts);
e) musical events management applications: introduction to 'Prism';
f) national and international legislation and regulations on copyright and safety in the organisation of events.
