Revision Practices

Objectives

This curricular unit aims to provide theoretical understanding and practical experience that support professionalrevision work. At the end of the course unit, each student should be able to:
a) evaluate the most relevant issues with regard to the possibilities and limits of revisory intervention;
b) properly use proofreading marks;
c) apply different revision types and procedures according to what is most appropriate for each particular task;
d) master the use of revision tools and resources;
e) make appropriate decisions, from the point of view of revision practice, based on quality criteria.

Teaching method

The curricular unit includes theoretical (expository) classes, whenever it will be necessary; but practical classes,including case analysis and exercises, will be favoured.
Active participation of each student, individually and in groups, will also be privileged.

Evaluation method

Subject matter

1. Revision: approaches and practices. Intervention criteria and categories. Scope and limits of revisory interventionaccording to the activities and the texts (or text genres). Analysis of cases and revision exercises.
2. Proofreading marks (NP-61). Proofreading and proofreading of translations. Analysis of cases and revisionexercises.
3. Revision tools and resources. Revision procedures, revision sequence, revision terminology. Analysis of cases andexercises.
4. Technical revision and translation revision (NP EN 15038:2012; NP EN ISO 17100:2016). Skills and profile of thetranslation reviser. Revision types and techniques (in translation revision). Translation and quality. Analysis of casesand practical revision exercises.
