Research Topics in Musicology
Objectives
a) To develop methodological, conceptual skills and to acquire research tools in the field of musicology;
b) To acquire the ability to discuss texts critically and to frame the issues under scrutiny with a theoretical-methodological approach;
c) To develop different research models and techniques in the field of musicology;
d) To cultivate critical judgment regarding different ways of presenting and communicating research results in musicology;
e) To provide the students with theoretical and methodological tools for the analysis on the study topics.

Evaluation method
Continuous assessment - 2 written tests (each worth 25% of the final grade), with audiovisual analysis exercises and questions on the contents presented in class(50%), A group research project consisting of the analysis of the music and sound of a particular Portuguese film chosen by the students from a list of suggestions. Each group presents the research project orally in class and in written form at the end of the semester(40%), Presence and active participation in class will also be considered in the evaluation process(10%)
Subject matter
The topics covered in the CU are chosen, in each semester, according to criteria of social and scientific relevance, taking into account current trends in musicological research. The contents of the programme are thus developed from the selected theme, providing a set of guidelines that frame and define the knowledge and skills under study. In the year 2022-2023, the topic is 'Music and Cinema'.
