Bachelor in Art History
Education objectives
1) To acquire theoretical knowledge of the History of Art, both international and Portuguese, from Antiquity to contemporary times;
2) To master the concepts and basic methodologies of History of Art;
3) To acquire skills to analyse and identify works of art;
4) To develop conceptual and critical abilities towards artistic objects and their contextualisation;
5) To acquire the ability to use knowledge of the History of Art for civic and social intervention;
6) To apply knowledge of the History of Art when reflecting upon the cultural identity of different societies;
7) To master appropriate knowledge of the History of Art to work within the fields of Museology and Heritage Studies.

Degree pre-requisites
Each student must obtain 180 credits: 114 credits obtained from compulsory courses, 36 credits from programme-restricted electives, and 30 credits from unrestricted electives or a Minor from another academic area. In their 1st year, students should not enrol in more than 30 credits per semester, respecting precedence rules when they have been set. At the beginning of each semester, the students will be advised on which courses to take, according to what best suits their academic requirements.

The degree of ‘Licenciado’ corresponds to the level 6 of the NQF and EQF-National Qualifications Framework/European Qualifications Framework.
Conditions of admittance
Students may be admitted to the Licenciatura Degree in Art History through the National Call to enrol in higher education, the Special Contests and the Special Access Regimes, as well as through Readmission or a Change of Institution/Program. Evaluation rules
Students are assessed based on the work carried out over the course of a semester, based on class participation, on the presentation of oral and written papers, and on tests and exams taken. The results of that assessment are expressed on a scale from 0 to 20. In order to pass, students must have at least 10 marks. Students who fail, however, have a second change to retake the final exam. SPECIAL ASSESSMENT REGIMES: - Student-worker - Students with competitive athlete status - Student mothers and fathers - Association leaders - Military personnel - Other special regimes provisioned by law. Students with special educational needs can benefit from teaching and learning conditions adapted to their needs.
