Lisbon Studies: art and architecture
Objectives
1. Become acquainted with the history of the architectural and artistic construction of the city in its various stages of transformation
2. Become acquainted with the social and cultural history of the city, the composition of its population, its professional, cultural and social practices, and the architectural and artisitc infrastructures that suppoerted them.
3. Be able to critically think the city, the major issues it was confronted with and the attending solutions that were conceived throughout the ages.
4. Become acquainted with the basic bibliographic references and the fundamental critical tools.

Teaching method
The course follows a lecture format with discussion periods during class time. Lecturer presentations, heavily supported by images, provide students with basic historical information and analytical tools. Students are expected to follow all the reading assignments and to participate actively in in-class discussions. Fieldtrips are a fundamental component of the pedagogy.
