Strategy

Objectives

1) General Objectives:
a. Understand the main concepts related to strategy, security and strategic action planning, the factors and constraints related to employment or the threat of employment by means of coercion in political-strategic action;
b. Understand the power relations between the different actors of the International System, in an evolutionary perspective, with particular emphasis on national security and defense aspects.
2) Specific Objectives:
a. Interpret and analyze the evolution of the concept of strategy and strategic thinking;
b. Geopolitical and geostrategic analysis and interpretation of the main issues that characterize the international strategic environment;
c. Characterize and analyze the International System and conflict;
d. Characterize and interpret the “new” risks and threats; the concept of security today; and the new type of conflict.
Recognize National Defense strategic planning.

Teaching method

The teaching method will be based on a symbiosis between theoretical classes and the assessment instrument (individual written work, with oral presentation).

Subject matter

Understand the concept of Strategy.
Characterize the scope of the Military Strategy.
Identify the characteristics of the military instrument in the context of its strategic use. Explain the concepts of power, influence, security, defense, interests and objectives.
Identify the laws and principles of violent conflict and characterize contemporary conflict.
Synthesize the conflict centered on the cultural and structural dimensions.
Identify the main aspects associated with the concepts of geopolitics and geostrategy.
Characterize the evolution of strategic and geostrategic weighing. Classic and contemporary geopolitical thinking .
Describe the methodology of geopolitical and geostrategic analysis.
Synthesize the Strategic Space of National Interest.
