Technologies and Chemical Processes

Objectives

The goal is for students to formulate and solve mass and energy balances in chemical processes. Basic concepts of thermodynamics, unit operations, kinetics, and dynamics of processes are also introduced. Some technologies and processes used in the chemical industry are addressed.

Teaching method

Theoretical-practical classes will explain and discuss the various topics on the syllabus, accompanied by the presentation of practical examples to consolidate knowledge and encourage students to participate critically. After introducing the concepts, several practical problems will be solved, the solution of which requires the application of the knowledge learnt. Learning is complemented by the presentation of a seminar on an industrial chemical process.

Evaluation method

    • 2 tests and a seminar
    • the final grade is = 0,8 tests grade +0,2 seminar grade
    •  minium grade 9,5 ( first test)

1- Analysis of Engineering Problems

Introduction to engineering calculations. Processes and process variables.

2- Mass Balances

Fundamentals of mass balances in processes with and without reaction. Mass balances in processes with multiple units.

3- Energy Balances

Energy and energy balances. Energy balances in non-reactive processes. Energy balances in reactive processes..
