Master in Maritime Logistics
Education objectives
This degree program assembles a fundamental set of knowledge in Logistics, with additional domains in Industrial Engineering and Management, which allows professionals of the maritime-port industry to develop the relevant research, innovation, technical, digital, and soft skills within the framework of sector related needs, including critical reasoning and a proactive predisposition.
The demand for Blue Skills is expected to increase in the next year’s most significantly in the areas of maritime transport, shipbuilding and shipping services. Especially, young professionals without prior specific education will have the opportunity to join the maritime industry that is expected to be in high demand of skilled specialists.
To whom it is intended
The Master in Maritime Logistics is intended for professionals with at least 5 years of experience that aim to obtain new skills in maritime operations and logistics, or to requalify their job-related skills in the maritime logistics domain, by acquiring a master’s degree.
Career opportunities
The Master in Maritime Logistics will train specialists able to:
- Understand, optimize and operate intermodal logistics schemes, value and supply chains.
- Create strategies to face the complexity of the sector and forecast the changes in the demand.
- Gain an integrated and systemic vision of the various aspects of port’s operation and logistics;
- Research, propose innovative solutions and organize teams, in different contexts of maritime logistics.
In particular the programme will give some qualification profiles that are not easily available on the market, which are:
- Integrated logistics Managers.
- Maritime Supply Chain Specialists.
- Port Managers.
- Shipping/Transport Technicians and Managers.

Conditions of admittance
Admission rules:
At least 5 years of professional activity, preferably in Logistics Operations and Management, such as ship owners/charterers, ports, port terminals, transportation, logistics centres, agents or brokers, holding a:
a) 1st cycle degree or legal equivalent in the areas of Exact Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics, Business Management, Naval Administration or Geography; or
b) Foreign higher academic degree granted, following a 1st cycle of studies in those areas organized according to the Bologna Process, by a State adherent to this Process; or
c) Other academic degree in the same areas above that is recognized as meeting the goals of a 1st cycle degree by the Scientific Councils of FCT NOVA or of the Naval Academy;
d) Professional, scholar or scientific curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the coordinating school.
Proficiency in English is mandatory.

Candidates may be required to have an interview with the selection committee.
Evaluation rules
The evaluation of all UCs is continuous for all the components that integrate it, and it must be completed by the last day of the school term of the academic semester.
The continuous evaluation of a UC must include a minimum of three elements in the set of evaluation components, on dates adequately spaced throughout the period of classes. All UCs with a theoretical-practical evaluation component must provide, in addition, a form of evaluation of this component by exam, to be carried out after the period of classes (Examination of Appeal).
All requirements and conditions related to the evaluation of the UC, namely the minimum weights and classifications, if any, of each component, as well as the Frequency conditions, are defined a priori and, mandatorily, published in the Discipline Form.
For each UC, combinations of three evaluation components are allowed: (i) Theoretical-practical evaluation; (ii) Laboratory or project evaluation; (iii) Summative evaluation.
The final Dissertation (or Project) involves a public discussion with a Jury.
