Education objectives

Mastering technologies state of the art with sustainable application in agro-industry, including aspects on the frontier of knowledge in order to develop appropriate professional activity to the production of food raw materials;

Analyze the complexity of agribusiness systems in innovative ways, demonstrating critical, enterprising and creative capacity in the reformulation of food products;

Understand the several ways of an agro-industrial processing system suitable to the design of new food products as well as the social context in which the system is inserted;

Communicating and interacting in team, with intervention in the production processes of the agro-food industries looking to optimize processes and being aware of the responsibilities and ethical and professional obligations.

Career opportunities

The masters in Agro-Industrial Production and Manufacturing Technologies will be able to perform their profession in public and private sector organizations in management activities, Development, Maintenance and Quality Control in Agro-Food Industry linked in obtaining materials raw and processed products. They also can integrate services companies including consulting, project and audit or perform research tasks in academic and/or business context.

(a) 6 ECTS in courses chosen by the student on a list approved annually by the Scientific Council of NOVA FCT, which includes the unity of all scientific areas of NOVA FCT.

Conditions of admittance

Admission rules:

  1. Holders of a Bachelor´s degree (pre-Bologna or 1st Bologna Cycle) in any area of Natural Sciences, Exact or Technology areas, or equivalent, with a minimum of 180 ECTS;

  2. Holders of a foreign academic degree in required areas recognized as meeting the objectives of the Bachelor´s degree, in the same areas, by the Scientific Committee of the Master in Industrial Technologies and Agro-Industrial Transformation. It requires approval by the Scientific Council of NOVA FCT, after acceptance by the Scientific Committee of the Course;

  3. Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to accomplish referred cycle of studies by the Scientific Committee of the Master in Industrial Technologies and Agro-Industrial Transformation.

Ranking:

  1. Classification of previous degrees;

  2. Academic and scientific curriculum;

  3. Professional curriculum;

  4. Possible interview.

Evaluation rules

The evaluation of all UCs is continuous for all the components that integrate it, and it must be completed by the last day of the school term of the academic semester.

The continuous evaluation of a UC must include a minimum of three elements in the set of evaluation components, on dates adequately spaced throughout the period of classes.

All UCs with a theoretical-practical evaluation component must provide, in addition, a form of evaluation of this component by exam, to be carried out after the period of classes (Examination of Appeal).

All requirements and conditions related to the evaluation of the UC, namely the minimum weights and classifications, if any, of each component, as well as the Frequency conditions, are defined a priori and, mandatorily, published in the Discipline Form.

For each UC, combinations of three evaluation components are allowed: (i) Theoretical-practical evaluation; (ii) Laboratory or project evaluation; (iii) Summative assessment.

The final Dissertation (or Project) involves a public discussion with a Jury.
