Introduction to Arbitration

Objectives

The Course provides students with a first, but in-deep, knowledge of arbitration. The focus is in Portugueses domestic arbitration, but with a strong international flavor, considering that Portuguese domestic arbitration is intensely influenced by international standards. At the end of the Course, students will, accordingly, be able to understand the main features and tools of modern arbitration.

Teaching method

The course adopts the flipped class-room method where students read and prepare the materials for each topic and classes are used to debate and analyse the different topics of the syllabus.


Evaluation method

The students will be assessed through a mandatory final exam (50%), facultative oral presentations of cases in class (see below) and spontaneous participation in class (50%). If the students do not participate in classes their final grade will consist only on the final exam classification. Materials and cases for each class are available for students to prepare. (There will be a Portuguese version of the exam and students may answer in Portuguese.)
