Family Law
Objectives
- to present to students, in a systematic way, the main institutes that make up the Family Law and the corresponding legislation;
- to promote in the student the capacity to understanding knowledge of the different socio-normative dimensions of Family Law and to integrate this knowledge with the other disciplines and subjects studied;
- to enable the student to handle the technical and legal mechanisms of judgment and decision-making in legal and family themes, and to provide spaces for dialogue, debate and criticism as a way of inciting the reasoning for criticism, argumentation and persuasion in legal themes familiar.
- prepare the student to act adequately in different administrative or judicial instances, with the proper use of processes, acts and procedures;

Teaching method
One of the Guiding Principles of Teaching Methodology at the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, which will be adopted in Family Law, refers to the preference for theoretical-practical classes combined with structured discussions and discussions in the classroom.
Classes will be preceded by texts and documents (in particular case studies decided by the Portuguese courts and the European Court of Human Rights) previously prepared and / or selected and shared with students through E-Learning (moodle), enabling active participation in the questioning, interpretation and discussion of the themes.
Evaluation method
The evaluation will consist of Final Written Exam composed of two parts: one theoretical-practical and one dissertative.The evaluation takes into account the mastering of the theme, the ability to analyze and synthesize its content, the creativity in connecting it to other themes of the course or to other knowledge sources, as well as the written communication skills.
