Education objectives
The Master's in Statistics Applied to Health is a joint program between the Faculty of Science and Technology and the NOVA Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, with the collaboration of Nova Medical School, the National School of Public Health, NOVA- IMS and the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, achieving a diversity of curricular units that favor multidisciplinary experiences in the job market.
The objectives of the Master's Degree in Statistics Applied to Health are to train professionals with fundamental theoretical knowledge and skills in statistics and with innovative practical skills necessary to correctly apply appropriate statistical methods to studies in the area of ¿¿health sciences, medical research and epidemiology. In a multidisciplinary environment, it promotes sharing with areas such as demography, geographic information systems, health assessment, epidemiology, bioinformatics, health management, among others.

Degree pre-requisites
It comprises two academic years (120 ECTS). Students who at the end of the second semester have completed 60 ECTS can apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Health Statistics.
Conditions of admittance
Holders of a 1st cycle in life sciences, engineering, mathematics, statistics, social sciences or related areas. It is aimed at candidates with different profiles, in the areas of health, mathematics and statistics, holders of a 1st cycle in life sciences, engineering, mathematics, statistics, social sciences or related areas. Being offered remotely, through eLearning platforms and streaming systems (webinars), in Portuguese and using modern technologies and pedagogical models, it is specially adapted to professional students, also located remotely.
Evaluation rules
The course is structured into 3 semesters of curricular units and 1 semester of thesis. In the 3rd semester, three of the subjects, Webinar Space in Statistics for Health, Journal Club in Statistics and Research Seminar, are already directed towards health research that they will have to develop in the context of the thesis.
