Objectives

To study the main  authors of the Portuguese Modernism: Fernando Pessoa, Mário de Sá-Carneiro, Almada Negreiros. 

To study Portuguese Modernism in the context of the European avant-garde: cubism, futurism, sensacionism and other isms.

To analyse some «revues» from the Portuguese Modernism: «Orpheu», «Portugal Futurista». 

From the analysis of some important texts of Portuguese Modernism, to develop the critical capabilities required for students to reflect on and to research about Portuguese Modernism, as well as to be able to study in depth the work of the authors studied.

Teaching method

To present and to question theoretical concepts. Analysis of texts. Oral discussion of some aspects and themes of the texts.

Evaluation method

Continuous assessment - Two mandatory individual exams (each accounting for 50% of the final grade) and one optional course-work. If the student chooses to do this course-work, each component will account for 1/3 of the final grade.(100%)
