Paleografia
Objectives
1. Understand the evolution of writing in Portugal between the 13th and 18th centuries;
2. Acquire the ability to read various handwritten document types, among the most common ones produced in
Portugal between c. 1200 and c. 1800;
3. Master handwritten documentation transcription techniques;
4. Classify, summarize and present the different types of documentation, in accordance with scientific rules;
5. Develop the ability to investigate, using manuscript sources from the medieval and modern periods

Teaching method
Classes with prior distribution of the documents under study. Explanation of the different ductus.
Evaluation method
Continuous assessment - The assessment includes two written tests: two tests (equal weighting); or a test (with a weight of 60% of the final grade) and an individual transcription assignment (with a weight of 40% of the final grade).(100%)

1. Concepts and theoretical notions.
Concept and object of Paleography. Scientific and practical nature of the Paleography discipline. The evolution of writing.
Chronologies. Transcription criteria. Presentation of the transcribed document.
