Industrial Project

Objectives

This curricular unit aims at the application and integration of engineering knowledge in an industrial context, within the field of advanced digital manufacturing. Students carry out a project embedded in a company, defined in collaboration between the host organisation and the academic supervisors. The project may focus on a product or a process and involves the planning, development and possible implementation of solutions.

At the end of the curricular unit, the student should be able to:

- Identify and specify engineering needs in an industrial context.
- Design, plan and implement suitable technical and technological solutions.
- Develop a project integrated into the reality of a company, articulating objectives, resources and constraints.
- Demonstrate the ability to implement prototypes and validate solutions.
- Critically analyse the results achieved and propose improvement actions.
- Produce a technical-scientific document that characterises and communicates the work carried out.
- Demonstrate competences in project planning, effective communication and teamwork in an industrial environment.

Evaluation method

The final grade (FG) results from the weighting of two components:

- Final written report: 75%
- Presentation and public defence: 25%

- Project planning vs. product planning vs. development process planning.
- Identification of opportunities and needs in an industrial context.
- Definition of product specifications.
- Analysis of subsystems and interfaces.
- Concept generation, selection and testing.
- Design for X.
- Prototyping and validation in an industrial environment.
- Development and implementation of solutions in collaboration with companies.
- Evaluation of results and preparation of the technical report.
- Presentation and public defence of the work carried out.
