Master's in Law and Economics of the Sea - Ocean Governance

Education objectives

The Master's Degree in Law and Economics of the Sea - Ocean Governance aims to train a new generation of leaders, researchers and professionals capable of addressing the complex challenges and opportunities of the oceans in the 21st century. This programme promotes a deeply interdisciplinary understanding of ocean issues, integrating legal, economic, environmental and public policy perspectives to provide a comprehensive framework for sustainable ocean governance.

By combining rigorous training in maritime law with advanced knowledge of marine economics, students will develop the analytical tools necessary to assess how ocean resources are governed, financed and protected. Particular emphasis is placed on creative and critical thinking, enabling students to identify emerging trends, anticipate risks and propose innovative solutions that reconcile economic development with ecological protection.

The tuition fee can be paid in full, or in ten monthly instalments.

Degree pre-requisites

A master´s degree is awarded to students who have passed all the course units that make up the taught part of the course, for a total of 60 credits; and the dissertation, project work, or internship report.

Conditions of admittance

- Holders of a bachelor's degree or legal equivalent; - Holders of a foreign higher academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State that adheres to that Process; - Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the bachelor¿s degree by the Faculty´s Scientific Council; - Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae that is recognized as attesting to the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the Faculty's Scientific Council.

Evaluation rules

The final assessment of the curricular units consists, as a rule, of a written exam with a maximum duration of three hours, under an anonymous regime, designed to assess the extent to which students have achieved the curricular goals and learning objectives of such curricular units. Other complementary elements of assessment may be used, as long as they are announced to the students orally and in writing at the beginning of the semester.
