Education objectives

The Master in Medical Microbiology has as general objective to train specialists, with a global and multidisciplinary perspective, qualified with solid and integrated theoretical and practical training in Microbiology, with capacities in the application of the most advanced laboratory diagnostic technologies, microbiological investigation and control and quality certification of Microbiology laboratories.

Allows you to acquire solid training in the scientific area of Medical Microbiology, based on the multiple skills and areas of specialization of the co-organizing institutions and their respective synergies.

Enables the development of skills from a multidisciplinary perspective, adapted to solving specific problems, meeting the training and updating needs of professionals with training in Life and Health Sciences, but also of health professionals with training and/or updating needs in the areas of clinical and laboratory microbiological diagnosis.

Enables research, development and innovation, with particular emphasis on the area of molecular microbiology applied to Medical Microbiology.

Prepares you to continue your academic training, namely by completing a 3rd cycle of training, leading to a Doctorate Degree.

Mondays to Thursdays, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Degree pre-requisites

Duration: 2 academic years (4 semesters).

The minimum number of ECTS/credits to obtain the degree is 120.

The curricular component (60 credits) is divided into two semesters, the first is taught the core curricular units and compulsory. In the second semester, more flexible, it is allowed the selection of a total of five optional curricular units, from a universe of 16 possibilities offered by the four organizing institutions. In the 2nd year a dissertation (60 credits) is developed.

Conditions of admittance

Graduates in the area of Life and Health Sciences (Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and other related areas, to be evaluated by the Scientific Committee).
