PhD in Information Management
Education objectives
The PhD Programme in Information Management aims to promote knowledge and innovation in the field of information management, in particular by investigating its impact on wealth creation, improving the performance of organisations and developing new methodologies and decision support tools.
The cycle of studies leading to the degree of Doctor in Information Management has the general objective of promoting advanced training through research, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the training of researchers, higher education teachers and highly qualified professionals. The research carried out can have a more theoretical slant or be carried out in a more applied context, enabling the transfer of knowledge from academia to society.
This PhD programme is aimed at the advanced acquisition of knowledge by highly qualified researchers, teachers, technicians and managers.
The award of the doctoral degree presupposes that the doctoral student has acquired:
Solid scientific knowledge in their area of specialisation;
The ability to design and carry out autonomous research in accordance with international quality standards, the results of which can be published in international scientific journals;
The ability to communicate the research carried out and the results obtained with their peers (and the wider academic community);
Skills to generate innovation, regardless of whether they develop a professional activity in the academic world, or choose to join the business world or public administration institutions.

The student selection process is based on an analysis of the academic and professional curriculum. The members of the selection panel may decide to interview the candidates.

Degree pre-requisites
Obtaining the PhD in Information Management implies completing the curricular component, which corresponds to 40 ECTS, and writing a thesis of a scientific nature, carried out during the third year of the course, which corresponds to 140 ECTS.
Conditions of admittance
To enter the Doctoral Program, applicants must meet one of the requirements set out in national legislation: Hold a Master's degree or equivalent, or a bachelor's degree, in which the number of credits is at least 240. In this case the final grade average must be at least 16 (out of 20); Hold a degree and a relevant academic or scientific curriculum and which has been recognized and approved by the Academic Board that declares that the applicant is able to carry out this cycle of studies; Applicants must show proficiency (spoken and written) in English.
Evaluation rules
The assessment method will be continuous assessment, i.e. through individual or group work, projects, quizzes, tests/exams, etc. At the beginning of each academic year, it is up to each teacher of each Curricular Unit (CU) to define how assessment will be carried out in their CUs, and this information is then made available via the student platform.
